About me

My name is Rodrigo Nunes Cal, creator of DNAXplore | Human DNA Research, an independent educational science blog dedicated to the exploration and communication of human DNA, genetics, molecular biology, genomics, and related biomedical sciences. Through this project, I seek to make scientifically meaningful knowledge more accessible by presenting complex subjects with clarity, context, structure, and intellectual rigor.

My approach brings together scientific education, structured explanations, carefully selected references, and visual resources to facilitate the understanding of subjects across human genetics and contemporary biomedical science. The material is intended for students, educators, researchers, professionals, science enthusiasts, and members of the general public who wish to develop a deeper understanding of biological and medical sciences. The purpose is educational rather than clinical: DNAXplore does not provide medical diagnosis, treatment, or individualized healthcare recommendations.

The editorial philosophy behind the project is grounded in scientific literacy, clarity, transparency, and responsible communication. Complex subjects are presented within their appropriate scientific context, with attention to established biological principles, relevant research, methodological considerations, and the distinction between demonstrated evidence, ongoing investigation, and emerging scientific possibilities. This distinction is particularly important in rapidly developing fields in which new findings can expand, refine, or challenge existing interpretations.

Academic Background

I hold a Bachelor's degree in Biomedicine from the Federal University of Triângulo Mineiro (UFTM). My academic training included scientific work in parasitology, experimental biology, and mechanisms associated with drug resistance in Trypanosoma cruzi. My undergraduate thesis, entitled “Induction of Resistance to Benznidazole in Human Isolates of Trypanosoma cruzi,” investigated experimental aspects of resistance to benznidazole in human isolates of the parasite associated with Chagas disease.

I also earned a Master's degree in Health Sciences from the Faculty of Medicine of São José do Rio Preto (FAMERP), with a research focus on experimental lung cancer. This academic work contributed to a scientific publication in Pathology Research and Practice, with an abstract indexed in PubMed. My academic background and scientific activities are also documented in Brazil's Lattes Curriculum.

My academic experience provided a foundation in scientific investigation, experimental reasoning, interpretation of research findings, and the importance of evaluating evidence within its methodological and biological context. These principles continue to influence the way I approach scientific communication: with an emphasis on accuracy, intellectual honesty, appropriate context, and recognition of the limitations that accompany scientific knowledge.

Scientific and Educational Approach

DNAXplore was established as an independent science communication project dedicated to the educational exploration of human DNA, genetics, genomics, molecular biology, biotechnology, and related areas of biomedical science. The content is organized to provide conceptual explanations, scientific context, and accessible interpretations of subjects that can otherwise be difficult for non-specialist readers to approach.

The blog addresses subjects including genomic science, DNA and genetic testing, personalized and precision medicine, epigenetics, CRISPR and gene editing, pharmacogenomics, mitochondrial biology, microbiome research, longevity and aging research, artificial intelligence in healthcare, medical robotics, nanomedicine, bioinformatics, regenerative medicine, biomarkers, and other areas of contemporary biomedical investigation.

The objective is to translate scientific concepts into clear educational explanations while preserving the distinctions between established knowledge, experimental findings, hypotheses, and areas that remain under investigation. Rather than presenting scientific subjects as isolated facts, the material seeks to provide sufficient context for readers to understand how biological knowledge is developed, evaluated, refined, and applied. This approach is intended to encourage critical thinking and informed learning rather than replace professional scientific, medical, or academic judgment.

Content Creation and Scientific Methodology

The articles published on DNAXplore are developed as educational science communication materials, with emphasis on clarity, logical organization, scientific context, and responsible presentation of biomedical information. The content seeks to explain scientific principles in a manner that can be understood by readers with different levels of prior knowledge while preserving the terminology and conceptual framework necessary for accurate interpretation.

Where appropriate, articles incorporate references to peer-reviewed scientific literature, academic publications, recognized scientific institutions, and other relevant sources. External references are intended to allow readers to investigate subjects further, consult the underlying literature, and develop a more informed understanding of the evidence supporting particular scientific claims.

The development of educational material also involves attention to the principles of the scientific method, including observation, hypothesis formation, experimentation, analysis, interpretation, and the evaluation of reproducible evidence. These principles provide an important framework for understanding how scientific conclusions are established and why individual findings should be interpreted within the broader body of available evidence.

ChatGPT was used as an editorial and creative assistance tool in the development of the blog's pages and articles, supporting activities such as drafting, writing refinement, organization, structural development, and formatting. Its role was supportive rather than authoritative, and the final responsibility for the content, presentation, organization, and educational purpose of the published material remains human.

For the creation of visual resources, both ChatGPT and Gemini were used to create ultra-realistic, exceptionally high-quality images with a high level of visual detail. These AI-assisted visuals were developed to represent biological concepts, molecular structures, laboratory environments, biomedical technologies, computational processes, and scientific scenarios in an engaging and educational manner.

Gemini was also used to create high-quality videos for the blog, providing additional visual and multimedia resources for the communication of scientific and biomedical concepts. These videos and AI-assisted images are intended to complement the written material and facilitate conceptual understanding; they should not be interpreted as photographic or documentary evidence of actual experiments, clinical procedures, biological specimens, or scientific findings unless explicitly identified as such.

Contributions to Science Communication

  • Original educational content: I develop and organize educational material addressing human DNA, genetics, molecular biology, genomics, biotechnology, and related biomedical disciplines, with an emphasis on depth, clarity, scientific context, and accessibility.

  • Interdisciplinary perspective: The project brings together concepts from genetics, molecular biology, biotechnology, medicine, bioinformatics, artificial intelligence, robotics, and related scientific fields, highlighting the increasingly interconnected nature of contemporary life-science research.

  • Educational visualization: AI-assisted and scientifically oriented visual resources are incorporated to complement written explanations and provide intuitive representations of complex biological structures, molecular processes, biomedical technologies, computational approaches, and research concepts.

  • Research-oriented resources: Internal and external references are incorporated where they can provide additional context, facilitate navigation, or direct readers toward scientific publications, academic resources, databases, and other authoritative materials relevant to the subjects discussed.

  • Scientific transparency: The project maintains a clear distinction between educational science communication and professional healthcare services, avoiding the presentation of general scientific information as individualized diagnosis, treatment, or medical guidance.

  • International accessibility: The material is presented in English to make scientific subjects accessible to an international readership that includes students, educators, researchers, professionals, and individuals with an interest in the life sciences.

  • Progressive educational depth: The content ranges from foundational biological principles to advanced and emerging areas of biomedical science and technology, allowing readers with different levels of scientific familiarity to engage with subjects progressively and develop their understanding over time.

  • Responsible dissemination of knowledge: The editorial approach considers the strength of available evidence, scientific context, uncertainty, ethical dimensions, and the limitations associated with developing areas of biomedical investigation.

Editorial Principles

The editorial principles guiding DNAXplore are grounded in scientific accuracy, intellectual honesty, transparency, educational usefulness, and respect for the boundaries of available evidence. Scientific subjects are approached with the understanding that responsible communication requires not only the presentation of information, but also appropriate attention to its context, limitations, degree of certainty, and relevance.

The project does not seek to sensationalize biomedical discoveries or present preliminary findings, experimental observations, or theoretical possibilities as established clinical facts. Whenever appropriate, readers are encouraged to examine the underlying scientific evidence and consult qualified professionals when a subject has direct medical, clinical, or personal implications.

The educational purpose of the project is therefore centered on the dissemination, contextualization, and interpretation of scientific knowledge rather than clinical intervention. Its materials are intended to encourage curiosity, informed reading, analytical reasoning, critical evaluation of evidence, and a deeper appreciation of the biological sciences and their continuing development.
